It's the quality and volumes of its refined products that makes Western Refining a major player in the West. The independent oil refiner operates primarily in the Southwest region of the US. Western Refining's refineries (one in El Paso, one in the Four Corners region of northern New Mexico, and one in Minnesota) have a crude oil refining capacity of 246,500 barrels per day. More than 90% of its refined products are made up of light transportation fuels, including diesel and gasoline. It owns a wholesale division that complements the refining operations. Western Refining also owns about 260 retail outlets in the Southwest. In 2016 the company agreed to by acquired by Tesoro in a $6.4 billion deal.
